Model Atom

Equipment: 1 piece of paper, 30cm string, a small ball of blue tac, coloured beads for protons and nuetrons.

Method: Stick p+n beads to blue tac 

- cut out rings from paper

- Draw electrons onto rings

- create a label

- tape string to back of paper so it can hang.

discussion - I did oxygen for my model atom it has 8 protons and 8 electrons. The ion formation for Oxygen is O ^2-  so it has a negative charge. On the first ring it has 2 electrons because that is the maximum number for electrons in the first ring. In the seond ring the maximum number for electrons is 8 and the last ring is 8 but there has to be 6 because that makes up 16 electrons, there are 16.0 electrons in oxygen and heres how it goes.

   Protons went all in the middle.
   First/inside ring-2
   Second/inbetween ring-8
   Third/outer ring-6
